Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens, Australian permanent resident visa and Australian humanitarian visa holders are classed as ‘domestic students.’ Domestic (Australian) full-fee paying students wishing to apply for a place at VIT (Victorian Institute of Technology) should apply through VTAC. Applications close around Mid-year for each intake.
Admission Criteria
All applicants must meet the minimum entry requirements as well as the course prerequisites. Course specific entry requirements are available at the Courses and Fees page for all the VIT courses. Prospective students applying to undertake a higher education program at VIT are assessed as follows.
A. Applicants with Higher Education Study
Applicants are eligible for admission if they have satisfactorily completed at least six months of full-time equivalent study at a recognised higher education institution and have relevant pre-requisites.
A-1 Completed Bridging and Enabling Courses
Graduates of a foundation program offered by an Australian university, a TAFE or an accredited private provider consistent with the Australian National Standard Foundation (NSPF) programs are eligible for admission.
B. Applicants with Vocational Education and Training
Applicants are eligible for admission if they have satisfactorily completed one year of a VET (Vocational Education Training) Australian Qualifications Framework accredited award at Certificate III or above. Applicants must meet the course pre-requisites. Credit for this study will be assessed according to the VIT Credit Transfer Policy
C. Applicants with recent Secondary Education (within the past two years)
Applicants should meet the following entry requirements to be considered for VIT admission.
C-1 Australian Year 12 Students
C-2 Interstate Year 12
Applicants from interstate are assessed on a case by case basis. Applicants should have the Victorian Certificate of Education (VEC) equivalent.

D. Applicants with Work and Life Experiences
The following applicants may be considered under the work and life experience category:
D-1 Applicants who have not completed Year 12 or equivalent
Applicants under this category will be assessed on an individual basis using the following criteria.

Student Welfare and Wellbeing
A. Counselling Service
The Counselling Service at VIT helps students to address academic and personal issues. This is a professional and confidential service that is available to all students free of charge
Domestic Students can access this service to discuss matters such as balancing study and worlife, time management, anxiety and depression, relationship issues, harassment and sexual harassment or assault, or just to have someone listen and give advice.

B. Fees Support
VIT supports students experiencing financial hardship. If the student is paying full-fees and is undergoing some hardship, after assessing the circumstances, VIT may offer a payment plan option.

A. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants are assessed in the same way as applicants under categories 2.A to 2.D
B. Domestic Applicants with Overseas Qualifications
The Admission Officer at VIT will assess the applicant’s qualifications and verify the suitability of entry into that course entry requirements. Such applicants are carefully assessed on a case by case basis.

Before enrolling in any VIT course, please make sure you are aware of the course content, duration, and mode of delivery. If you do not have this information, please email [email protected] for further information.

Upon receipt of your application and meeting the requirements, you will be sent a letter of offer, detailing total course costs, course duration and course details.
If your application is approved and you accept the offer you must submit the Enrolment Acceptance by the acceptance date to VIT. Once VIT receives the signed Enrolment Acceptance it will accept payment (via bank draft or electronic transfer) and confirm your enrolment.
If the submission documentation is incomplete your application will not be processed, and you will be contacted for the required information.

Acceptance of Offer
Whether you received a VIT or TAC offer, you will need to attend VIT on the enrolment date specified in your offer to accept your offer and enroll in units.
Advanced Standing/ Academic Credit/Recognition of Prior Learning
Credits for units are awarded based on VIT/s Credit Transfer Policy
Deferment
You can defer for up to 12 months. If you wish to defer studies, you must do so before the offer acceptance and enrolment date specified in your offer letter.
