You will be able to compare concepts and evaluate OO design paradigms. You will also be able to implement these concepts in a suitable OO language including Java or Python.

This unit covers in-depth knowledge and concepts for database models, systems and languages. You will explore and practise data modelling, data structure design and Structured Query Language (SQL) used in relational database. The unit also covers the functions of the database management systems (DBMS) and related administrative activities. Systematic methodology for relational database design using entity relationship diagrams and normalisation of data is covered in detail. You will be introduced to a subset of SQL using a selected database platform.

You will learn to synthesise enterprise data requirements and craft entity relationship diagrams. You will also model the physical data structure and normalise the relationship based on the application’s functional dependency needs. In addition, you will gain competence to perform complex data retrieval and carry out advanced data manipulation using SQL. Further, you will be able to implement the concepts of data security and privacy in a database.

This unit covers fundamental knowledge in data communications and network technology. It introduces various networking and communication media and provides an in-depth understanding of multiple techniques for reliable and efficient data communication.
